I writing to explain further about the invitation of deaf futsal clubs to DCL Futsal 2021, especially with the COVID-19 situation.
DCL have only received information from 12 National Deaf Federation in Europe (France, Norway, Italy, Scotland, Azerbaijan, Czech Republic, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland, Belgium, Finland and Poland who confirmed that they have managed to play a Futsal Championship for the season 2019/2020. From the 9 countries, DCL invited the champions to attend the DCL Futsal 2021, which is planned for to be held in Lisbon.
We received also replies from at least a further 6 National Deaf Federations (Spain, England, Israel, Netherland, Denmark and Portugal who confirmed that their National Deaf Futsal Championships was cancelled for the 2019/2020 season.
As there were only 12 clubs initially available to be invited, the DCL Executive Committee decided that we would offer the opportunity to invite clubs using the results from the 2018/2019 season. The clubs who were champions have been offered the opportunity to participate in Lisbon. If the Champions do not wish to participate, we would then offer the place to the club that finished runners-up, and so on.
For the National Deaf Federations who have not replied at all to DCL to say if have played or have cancelled their national championship, DCL have decided not to contact them to offer a club an opportunity to participate in Lisbon.
The COVID-19 has created an unusual precedent, so DCL have considered inviting clubs based on the previous season’s results if no championships was played.
Information of DCL’s risk assessment has already been sent to the clubs/Federations. The local risk assessments from the host clubs will come later especially because the local government’s COVID-19 in each host’s country changes constantly. It is important that the host club/organising committee provides the up to date and relevant information. DCL are in close contact with the host clubs/organising committees for the 2021 Futsal (Lisbon) and football (Gothenburg) tournaments.
I hope the above helps to explain the usual precedent, but please contact me if you wish to discuss further.
I look forward to hearing from you.
